Muhlenberg County Stallions join the OVL

The Muhlenberg County Stallions have been accepted into the Ohio Valley League summer college baseball circuit.
The Stallions will become the seventh team to play in the league next summer. The league, which plays by NCAA rules, had five teams this past summer. They included the Fulton Railroaders, Hoptown Hoppers, Madisonville Miners, Owensboro Oilers, and Dubois County Bombers in Huntingburg, Indiana. The Paducah Chiefs joined the league on Oct. 29 and will also start play next June.

The wooden bat league will play a 42-game regular season schedule that will begin in early June. The regular season will finish in mid-July. A tournament will then be played to complete the season by July 31st. “We are looking forward to providing college-level baseball in Muhlenberg County next year,” said Stallions President Mark Stone of Central City. “We expect to have several local products to play for the Stallions.”

Stone said that Steve Fowler of Hanson, who is no stranger to the Ohio Valley League, will serve as manager and director of baseball operations. Fowler has held the position as head coach of several teams in the league.

"On behalf of the OVL, we are thrilled to have the Stallions as a new entry into our outstanding summer collegiate league,” said Cubb Stokes of Fulton, who is president of the league. “The Stallions will provide a great quality of baseball for the citizens of Muhlenberg County, as well as an opportunity for homegrown college players to return home and play in front of their friends and family. Your citizens will also be exposed to players from all over the country who will spend the summer in your county and make lasting friendships. I congratulate all involved in bringing summer collegiate baseball to your area and I guarantee each and everyone of you that you won't be disappointed."

Muhlenberg County will be taking over the Marion Bobcats franchise that last played in 2013. Home games will be played at the Muhlenberg County High School West Campus baseball field in Greenville KY.
